NFL week 10 picks

Movie Quote of the Day:

“Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting a flyby.”

– Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, Top Gun (1986)

Here the match-ups for week 10:

Week nine record: 7-6 (53.8 percent)
All-time record: 80-52 (60.6 percent)

Teams with bye weeks:

Atlanta (6-3)
Indianapolis (4-5)
San Diego (2-7)
San Francisco (3-6)

Tonight:

Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Buffalo (4-4) vs. New York Jets (5-3)
MetLife Stadium
East Rutherford, N.J.
Line: NYJ -2.5

This is a battle of teams built similarly. Both teams have talent on their roster, but lack a decent quarterback. I think the Jets have the better quarterback and head coach. They’re also the home team tonight. I can’t pick against them. I like the Jets to win.

Prediction: Jets 21, Bills 20

Sunday:

Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford.
Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford.

Detroit (1-7) vs. Green Bay (6-2)
Lambeau Field
Green Bay, Wis.
Line: GB -13

Detroit has been one of the worst teams in the league all season. Green Bay has been struggling the last two weeks, but improved a great deal in the second half in their game against Carolina. I doubt that the Packers got back on track last week, but it’s a good thing they’re playing the worst team in the league. I think Green Bay wins comfortably.

Prediction: Packers 35, Lions 21

Tampa Bay tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
Tampa Bay tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Dallas (2-6) vs. Tampa Bay (3-5)
Raymond James Stadium
Tampa, Fla.
Line: TB -1

Dallas has been struggling ever since week two, mainly because of injuries. The Cowboys will be without Tony Romo for another week. I can’t pick a team with Matt Cassel at quarterback. It’s tough to win on the road, and I think the Buccaneers win.

Prediction: Buccaneers 24, Cowboys 20

Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly.
Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly.

Carolina (8-0) vs. Tennessee (2-6)
Nissan Stadium
Nashville, Tenn.
Line: CAR -5.5

Carolina continues to look impressive every week. Tennessee finally got a win last week after losing six straight games. I feel like this could be a trap game for the Panthers. Tennessee has a decent defense, and Mariota has shown flashes this season. However, the Titans don’t have a head coach. Ron Rivera is pretty good coach for Carolina. I’m taking the Panthers in a close one.

Prediction: Panthers 26, Titans 21

Chicago wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey.
Chicago wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey.

Chicago (3-5) vs. St. Louis (4-4)
Edward Jones Dome
St. Louis, Mo.
Line: STL -7.5

Chicago has surprised a lot of football fans; they’ve been playing well in recent weeks. St. Louis had a bad loss last week against Minnesota. The Rams are the better team in this game. I don’t think the Bears have the defense to slow down Todd Gurley. I think the Rams win.

Prediction: Rams 30, Bears 24

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins.

New Orleans (4-5) vs. Washington (3-5)
FedEx Field
Landover, Md.
Line: Even

New Orleans suffered an embarrassing loss last week to Tennessee, at home. Washington is a decent team. The Redskins gave New England some struggles last week. The Saints have the better quarterback and better head coach. However, the Redskins have played well at home this season and have beat decent teams. I think Washington wins this game.

Prediction: Redskins 31, Saints 28

Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Miami (3-5) vs. Philadelphia (4-4)
Lincoln Financial Field
Philadelphia, Pa.
Line: PHI -7

It looks like Miami is back to being the Miami team we saw in the first four weeks of the season. Philadelphia is 3-1 in the last month after getting off to a 1-3 start to the season. Miami has had too many problems this season. I think this is the game that finally gets the Eagles over .500. I’m picking Philadelphia.

Prediction: Eagles 27, Dolphins 17

Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden.
Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden.

Cleveland (2-7) vs. Pittsburgh (5-4)
Heinz Field
Pittsburgh, Pa.
Line: PIT -4.5

Cleveland is coming off a blowout loss to Cincinnati last week. Pittsburgh had a close win against Oakland. However, during that win for the Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger suffered another injury and will miss several weeks. Cleveland is not a good team though. Whoever plays quarterback for Pittsburgh should be in good shape to lead the team to a win. I’m taking Pittsburgh.

Prediction: Steelers 24, Browns 17

Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles.
Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles.

Jacksonville (2-6) vs. Baltimore (2-6)
M&T Bank Stadium
Baltimore, Md.
Line: BAL -5.5

Battle of two teams who look like they’re going to have a top 10 pick in the draft. Neither team has played all season. However, the Ravens have the better roster, quarterback, and head coach. Luck hasn’t been Baltimore’s side all season. I can’t see Jacksonville outplaying Baltimore on the road. I think the Ravens win.

Prediction: Ravens 30, Jaguars 20

Oakland quarterback Derek Carr.
Oakland quarterback Derek Carr.

Minnesota (6-2) vs. Oakland (4-4)
O.co Coliseum
Oakland, Calif.
Line: OAK -3

Minnesota finally beat a team with a winning record last week. Oakland has been playing very well in recent weeks. The Vikings will have to travel across two time zones for this game. I wonder if Oakland has the defense to slow down Adrian Peterson because the Vikings will try to keep Derek Carr off the field. I think the Raiders will win this game though.

Prediction: Raiders 28, Vikings 24

New England free safety Devin McCourty.
New England free safety Devin McCourty.

New England (8-0) vs. New York Giants (5-4)
MetLife Stadium
East Rutherford, N.J.
Line: NE -8.5

I’m looking forward to this game. The Giants are 3-1 against New England with Eli Manning at quarterback, the loss was a game that went down to the wire in 2007. I don’t think New England’s defense is that good. The Patriots have been winning games because Tom Brady has been on fire this season. Call me crazy, but I’m going to pick the upset. I think the Giants win.

Prediction: Giants 27, Patriots 24

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.
Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.

Kansas City (3-5) vs. Denver (7-1)
Sports Authority Field
Denver, Colo.
Line: DEN -5.5

Kansas City is not the team I thought they’d be this season. I think Denver has the best defense in the NFL. Denver is always a tough place to play for opponents. The Broncos have been the better team all season. I think the Broncos win this game.

Prediction: Broncos 30, Chiefs 21

Monday:

Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer.
Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer.

Houston (3-5) vs. Cincinnati (8-0)
Paul Brown Stadium
Cincinnati, Ohio
Line: CIN -12

Houston is coming off a bye week. Cincinnati had their way with Cleveland last Thursday. Cincinnati looks like they could be the best team in the NFL. The Bengals get better every week. Andy Dalton has been outstanding all season. Houston doesn’t have a quarterback. I don’t see Houston going into Cincinnati and winning. I’m taking the Bengals to remain undefeated.

Prediction: Bengals 34, Texans 17

Game of the Week:

Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Arizona (6-2) vs. Seattle (4-4)
CenturyLink Field
Seattle, Wash.
Line: SEA -3

Before the season started, this was a game to circle on the calendar. Arizona is a top five team in the NFL. The Cardinals are well-coached, and have a pretty good roster. Seattle has struggled all season despite having one of the better rosters in the NFL. Seattle’s offensive line is lousy, but Arizona doesn’t have a great pass rush. I think Russell Wilson will be able to make plays in this game. I’m going with Seattle. I trust the Seahawks’ defense to get stops against Carson Palmer.

Prediction: Seahawks 28, Cardinals 25
